NEW YORK — Asset manager Strive has expanded its Bitcoin holdings with a purchase of approximately $143 million, moving the company into the top tier of publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holders.
The company bought 1,800 Bitcoin at an average price of roughly $79,431 per coin, bringing its total holdings to 23,156 Bitcoin.
Corporate Bitcoin Strategies Continue to Expand
Strategy has long dominated the corporate Bitcoin treasury discussion.
But Strive's latest acquisition demonstrates that other publicly traded companies are pursuing similar strategies.
Corporate Bitcoin purchases can provide companies with direct exposure to cryptocurrency price movements.
They can also become an important component of an investor's reason for owning the stock.
Strive's latest purchase moved the company past another publicly traded Bitcoin holder in corporate rankings.
That makes the company's strategy increasingly visible to Wall Street.
The approach carries significant risks.
Bitcoin can experience large price movements in short periods.
Companies holding large quantities of cryptocurrency must also consider how purchases are financed.
Strive's strategy is therefore not simply an investment decision.
It is also a corporate-finance strategy.
Investors must determine whether the potential appreciation of Bitcoin justifies the volatility and financial risks associated with holding such a large digital-asset position.
The growing number of corporate Bitcoin holders suggests that cryptocurrency is becoming increasingly integrated into public-company balance sheets.
It also creates a new category of publicly traded companies whose valuations can be influenced heavily by digital-asset prices.
For American investors, Strive's latest purchase provides another example of how Bitcoin is moving from a niche technology into a corporate treasury asset.
