Braves’ Brian Snitker Steps Down After Storied Atlanta Tenure

The Atlanta Braves announced on Wednesday that longtime manager Brian Snitker will step down from his role and transition into an advisory position ahead of the 2026 season. Snitker’s departure marks the end of an era for a franchise that has enjoyed remarkable consistency and success under his leadership, and places the Braves among eight MLB teams currently seeking new managerial hires this offseason.

A Lifetime in Atlanta

Brian Snitker, who will turn 70 on October 17, has spent 50 years with the Braves organization in various capacities. He assumed the managerial role on an interim basis in 2016, taking over for Fredi Gonzalez, and eventually became one of the most respected figures in franchise history.

Over parts of 10 seasons as manager, Snitker won 54.8% of his regular-season games, ranking third in overall Braves franchise wins behind legends Bobby Cox and Frank Selee. His tenure included six consecutive NL East titles from 2018-2023 and a memorable 2021 World Series championship, Atlanta’s second since relocating from Milwaukee in 1966.

Before managing at the MLB level, Snitker held a wide range of positions within the Braves organization, including big-league coach and minor-league manager, embodying a rare combination of loyalty and institutional knowledge. In recognition of his contributions, the Braves announced that Snitker will be inducted into the franchise Hall of Fame before a game next season.

A Legacy of Leadership

Even in the Braves’ down season of 2025, when the team won just 76 games and missed the playoffs, Snitker’s influence was evident. Players and staff alike praised his steady hand, deep baseball acumen, and ability to inspire teams through both triumphs and adversity.

What’s Next for the Braves?

With Snitker’s departure, Atlanta will now search for a manager capable of continuing the franchise’s winning tradition. Despite last season’s struggles, the Braves’ managerial opening is considered one of the most attractive positions in baseball. Other clubs seeking new managers include the Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins, and Los Angeles Angels, while teams such as the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, and Colorado Rockies have yet to make permanent managerial decisions following in-season changes.
